Regional Division

The Regional Anesthesia Division is responsible for performing peripheral nerve blocks and placing peripheral nerve block catheters. A dedicated Regional Resident, Regional Fellow, and Regional Attending perform these blocks before patients are taken to the operating room in order to improve OR throughput and maintian patient comfort. Most of the blocks are performed with the aid of state of the art ultrasound equipment. This allows the regionalist to identify nerves and surrounding structures.

The director of the Regional Anesthesia Division is Randall Coombs, M.D. Additional faculty with expertise in regional anesthesia include Dr. Ravindra Prasad, Dr. Paul Collins, Dr. Monica Nanda, and Dr. David Hardman. These clinicians are dedicated to teaching Residents the latest regional techniques in a safe and relaxed learning environment. Residents rotate through the Regional Division for one month. Additional regional anesthesia experience is obtained at the Ambulatory Care Center and during night and weekend call.
