Selection Process
Applicants must complete an Application for Appointment to the Housestaff of The University of North Carolina Hospitals, and provide a letter of interest, a personal statement, a copy of their curriculum vitae, a copy of their USMLE transcript, and a copy of their medical transcripts. Also requested are letters of recommendation (see below for specific subspecialty). Requirements for further consideration of the application are that the applicant (1) holds an M.D. degree or equivalent, (2) completes anesthesiology training prior to onset of fellowship in an accredited residency program, and (3) demonstrates evidence of interest and ability to carry out research, publication, clinical, and academic pursuits.
Pain Management Fellowship
Number of Positions for 2010-2011: 2 Duration of fellowship: 12 months

The letters of recommendation (total four) should include the following:
- Dean's Letter
- One letter from your residency director at your training institution
- Two additional letters of reference (one letter preferably from the Director of Pain Services)

Selected candidates will interview with the department chair and the pain management faculty.
Final selection is made by the Department of Anesthesiology Pain Education Committee.
